Over on the Classifieds section of the Classic Nation website I often see cars that look solid and are being offered at a reasonable price. Every now and then I see some really great deals on project cars. But – it’s rare to stumble on something that looks like a finished car at a project car price. Here is what I saw:
The posting for this car listed some details about the car. $5,000 was the asking price.
I knew the $5K price had to either be a typo, or a scammer. So – I sent an email to the person who listed the car. I had done this once before when, on a popular class car classified website, I saw a $12,000 ’65 Cobra for sale and sent an email. The response I got about the Cobra clearly indicated it was a scammer. For this Mustang, I already expected this to be the case.
This is an unedited email thread between myself and the person who listed this car:
Always be cautious when purchasing items from private parties online and do your research. Hopefully you never have to deal with a scammer like this. If you find yourself in a similar situation, please, please, PLEASE mess with them (and hopefully they become better people because of it).

Almost happened to me with a 1969 Dodge Charger for about $8000.00, this was like back in 2006. Nice looking car, nice price, and the same run around that went on. Ebay actually busted them right when I was going back and forth with the person, sent us an email saying that it was scammer and had deactivated their account.

If I want something, I get it (here) in the USA and that’s it. My Mustang, My Motorcycle, NEVER will I do business on the internet or with anyone outside the USA when it comes to things like that.

Wow, I read the whole thread. I knew you knew from the start, I’m kind of surprised they didn’t pick up on that fact…Thanks for posting this. It’s a shame it wasn’t for real what a nice car…

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME I SAW A BEAUIFUL HARLEY DAVIDSON, I COULD TELL THE PICTURES WERE TAKEN IN.LONG ISLAND , THIS BIKE WAS WORTH AT LEAST 20,000 SHE WANTED ONLY 6,000 SHE TOLD ME HER HUBBY DIED.AND SHES DOES NOT WANT TO SEE THE BIKE NO MORE. I TOLD HER ILL BUY IT , SHE SAID THE BIKE WAS SHIPPEDTO GREECE, SHE WANTED ME TO WIRE HER CASH. HELL NO! VERY VERY OLD SAYING IF ITS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE 99.9%.ITS A SCAM , THERE ARE MANY SCAMMERS OUT THERE, MOST SCAMMERS SEND E=MAIL FROM NIGERIA IF YOU EVEN SEE THE WORD NIGERIA ITS A SCAM.
