Can you guess which car had a faster quarter mile time when tested in 1970 by Car and Driver?

Here's a hint: It's probably not the one you think.

Cobra vs Chevelle

It's the Cobra.

The 1965 Shelby AC Cobra 289 turned in a quarter mile time of 13.73 seconds at 101.58 mph.

The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 ran a 13.81 and topped a 103.8 mph.

In the test, the Cobra and Chevelle easily beat a '70 Plymouth Duster 340 and a '70 Mustang Boss 302 as well.

So - what was the fastest pre-1971 "production" car in the quarter mile?
