Caddy-331-start-1

We almost burned down the shop, but we did get the 1949 Cadillac 331 engine started for the first time in years!

When I purchased the '49 Caddy last year, the seller included what was described as the original engine to the car. However, upon further inspection, I determined that while it was a 1949 Cadillac 331 engine that came out of a Series 62, it was not the original engine to my Cadillac. That didn't detour us from trying to fire the engine up to see if it would run! https://youtu.be/qb3xecJpzGQ

Blown Radiator, but the 1949 Cadillac is looking shiny!

Last week, with the sun shining bright in Eastern Washington, I took the car to the local car detail guy who gave the Cadillac a full cut and buff. He was able to restore the tired paint back to looking brand new! He also shined up all of the chrome brightwork. With the progress in the shop, I was able to find the perfect cool, dry place to keep this car tucked while I plot what the next steps are in the build plan. Hint: It's going to be a pretty wild upgrade! Also, we had a little issue: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Classic Nation (@classicnation)

Replacing the Old Tires with Proper Wide Whitewalls

Somewhere along the way, someone decided that this Cadillac didn't need whitewall tires. I disagree. The absolute first thing I purchased once I received the car is a new set of Diamondback white whitewall tires! I took the car down to the local tire shop so they could swap them on for me.

Original 1949 Cadillac 331 w/ Hydramatic transmission

My new '49 Cadillac has a Gen 2 LT1 engine in it, but it came with what was described to me as the matching numbers original Cadillac 331 engine, complete with the the engine accessories and Hydramatic transmission. Upon Further inspection, I can see that the engine serial doesn't match the frame and title vin for the car, so this isn't the engine that originally came with this car. However, this is a '49 engine and it appears to be in solid shape. My plan over the next few months is to get this engine fired up and running on the stand that it's sitting on! The serial on the 331 engine (496214688) and..READ MORE

First Look At My New 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible!

I've been a Cadillac enthusiast for years. The 1949 Cadillac has always been my favorite year, so when I got the opportunity to purchase this extremely solid 1949 Cadillac Convertible in Fort Worth, TX, I jumped on it. The asking price was fair, and even though the car has a modern LT1 engine and overdrive transmission, the seller included a 1949 Cadillac 331 engine & transmission with the car. https://youtu.be/hilWJy5lgNk Here are some of the photos of the car that were included in the for sale listing. As you can see, the Caddy is in fantastic shape. But - I've got big plans for it. I'm going to replace the early 1990s LT1 engine with a..READ MORE
