A friend of mine whose father owned a local tire dealership and whom was good friends with the local Oldsmobile dealer, had the first bare bones navy blue with a red pinstripe and Goodyear redline tires in our area. Of all the muscle cars at the time, it has was always my favorite, despite the fact that I owned a 1966 navy blue GTO with a white vinyl roof. To me, the ’65 442 [and its “twin”, the Buick Gran Sport [sans the badges] were the quintessential dream muscle cars of that era.
