New numbers matching 327 engine for the 65 impala SS
I located the correct 327 Chevy block and original "461" camel hump heads. I am having all the work done at a local machine shop here in Spokane, and have carefully chosen some upgraded internals that should make for a nice street-able engine. I am having the block taken to .40 over and having the heads magnafluxed and fitted with screw-in studs and guide plates.
I am going to go with flat top pistons, and the original crank and rods. That is where the original parts stop. For camshaft, I have chosen a Comp Cams Xtreme X4250H hydraulic flat tappet camshaft. This cam was designed for extreme low end torque, with a power curve right off the pedal and peaking at 2k RPM, which is very low on the spectrum. I opted for kit, that includes an new timing set, lifters, valve springs, clips and retainers. With my performer manifold, headers, and the quadrajet carb, the computer shows some pretty impressive numbers for this setup. HP shows a peak of 355 and torque reads a whopping.....wait for it... 417 lbs. When I get it all put together and installed, it should be quite the torque monster. More pics to come of final product and install.
