I haven’t talked to the owner for a year or two about the car, but last I heard he didn’t have any plans to sell it. He has mentioned the possibility of attempting a restoration (claims he has talked to a few people about going in on it) but I don’t know how serious he ever got.

My family owns a similar 1963 split window coupe. All original, all intact (though probably w/severe frame rot), in similar non-running and outdoor-stored/neglected condition. Has been parked for >30 years since differential was blown. For the first time, we are considering selling it to a restorer or for parts and have no idea of the value. Please contact me with questions or sales leads. Car is currently on the east coast (sorry for the vague location, wouldn’t want any treasure hunters looking for parts).

It’s something that I’ve always dreamed of owning since I was a child, I was born in ’63. they are very hard to come by here in Australia. I grew up in Spokane – this car is a legend there. In the early 90′s we used to drive by the car once a month at least. The general manager of a dealership I worked at during the time made a HUGE effort to buy the car then and have the dealership restore it – this guy just wasn’t going to sell it then, period. Doesn’t sound like much has changed.
When he was looking at it, we got to look all around and through it – it looked a lot better then than it does now in these pics… I believe the window was there (or up) then-
It’s too bad, but the comments from the socialists who think this car should be removed by force need to cool it. It’s a free country, and he should be able to light the thing on fire if he wants to. It’s a neat find, but he doesn’t owe anybody, or society in general, a thing. That being said, if he does sell it, I would love to see the progress on the restore. I’ve had a 17 year long crush on this car!

I used to live 2 houses away from this car in the late 80′s. It had about 2′ of lumber and pipe piled on top of and around it and I never did walk over to ask about it. Kind of assumed teh body would have been severely warped from the weight of all that material and the hot summers. Had I known it was a 4 speed fuelie I might have tried to talk him out of it. I was more interested in the ’59 Caddy 2 blocks away. I always wondered what the story behind it was. I might even go drive by it and see if it’s stil there tonight. Keep looking in alley’s and yards. There’s still LOTS of treasures to be found….

Hi! I’m new to this. I wanted to see if anyone could give me some info. My dad has been a huge help to me in the last 10 years, like any good dad. I’m a single mom and he has always helped me out financially when I needed it. I still owe him, in my mind, although he never expected repayment. I’m just now starting to get back on my feet and have a little I can save up from time to time. Dad just turned 61 this year and his fantasy ride is the ’63 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe. (I prefer the ’65 Stingray myself!) I will never be able to afford an intact or fully retored car, but could someone point me in the direction of a frame or stripped down version. Dad will restore it and I think he would love sharing the experience with his grandsons.

This car has really been a legend. I currently live two blocks away from the car, and it hasn’t changed.

The three tail lights are a custom addition that was done by the owner many years ago. This is a somewhat common modification, but as stated in earlier posts, isn’t stock nor has it ever been.

I too would like to see what progress is made to this car if and when it is restored!

I have access to a 1963 split window coupe one of the first factory ac cars made that year came out late in the year.
it’s a one owner with 39,000 actual miles
327 automatic.
the lady bought it new in Tennessee and the dealership offered her her pick of any car on the lot.
she priced it to me for 55,000
it has been chained to a pole under a shed for 16 years .
I haven’t got 55,000 but would except a nice finders fee to a lucky person.

The 3 rear tail lights was fairly common, I’m surprised there’s so much curiousity about it. In fact I heard it was often done by new car dealers in CA before the cars were even sold. The same idiots who flared the fenders of these old Vettes probably thought a 3rd “custom” tail light was a cool idea too…

I had a 63 Stingray, I could shoot my self now for not keeping it. It was gold, with a 327 engine and automatic trans. It had 396 emblems on the hood, never did figure that out. I had it in 1967 in Birmingham , Alabama. I always wondered where it ended up.

His son bought it an an had some plans for it, but he was in the military an got shipped out to vietnam. well he never came back..he got killed.

Did anybody of you ever think about that the car might be much more fascinating, the way it is ? Now it’s gorgeous! After restoration it would be just another car, which lost it’s history. Nobody of you would write about this legendary car with so many emotions after restoration. OK, I also wouldn’t love to see it go one deteriorate. But if I had the chance to buy it, I would preserve it just the way it is (e.g. dry storage). Not all cars have to be Pebble Beach winners. Let’s keep some that show their age and history with pride.

The owner really needs to sell that car.

Many people would put the time put the time and effort into making it new again even in that kind of shape.

If it’s gone 20 years w/o a resto, I’m sure every one that comes to offer $$ for it you’re like “oh yeah I’m about to fix it – just gotta talk to the right people” and 5 years later still nothing happens.

Just gotta up and sell. Turn that car’s life around by putting it in the hands of someone with the time to do it.

You people need to realize he owns the car and he should do with it exactly what he wants. I have a 63 fulie in my garage with stuff all over it too. There are a ton of 63′s out there for sale. The problem here is everybody wants something for nothing. I have had mine for over 20 years and people want to buy it all the time. Of course they do not want to pay what it is worth. You have to remember, in the 70′s you could not give a 63 away. Many people cut the post out to look like a 64-67. The point is, when you pay for and own your own, you can do with it what you want. Grow up people.

You guys think this is sad, well then I guess you have never heard of Butch Street that lives in sussex county De. He has in plain view SEVERAL vintage corvettes,(including a real 427 tri power 69 corvette)67-69 Camaro’s, (including a real 69 Z-28 cross ram)(he also has a body of a green Yenko Camaro plus a bunch of the the Camaro’s are converts.big block Chevy everything you can think of plus a 70 Challenger R/T 440six pack V code pistol grip 4spd dana 60 car, 70 GTO ram air Judge 4spd. also a few mustangs most cars all have tags that expired in the mid to late 70,s he got these cars when they were worth next to nothing and just never would sell anything.He must have at least 75 cars on his property, most sit outside, however there are some crammed in some of his out buildings.Some have small trees growing through and around them.I remember in the early eighties here on vacation most of them looked like you could just get in and drive them. You will love this his daily driver is a 70′s rusted out chevy truck and a early beat down Dodge caravan! Also within 10 min of his property is a road with several rotting muscle,70 Plymouth Superbird sitting under a carport (has not moved in the 10 years that i have lived here)on this same road is a White 70 mach 1 in a back yard rotting.Also at another home is a 69 SS chevelle 396 4spd. (one owner 14K miles sits under a tree in his back yard.(last tagged in 74′) WHY??? this guy was retired from GM) and a few houses up is a 69 gto in a brick garage on blocks. (this one you can’t see from the road, but it is in there.another fellow near by has at least 17 fastback mustangs under a outbuilding.Come to lower De. and cry. EVERYONE HERE KNOWS OF BUTCH!!
