Barn Find: 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window
February 19, 2009 – 7:40 pmKind of. More like “field find”. A fellow Classic Nation member Bob tipped us off to this rough-but-intact 1963 Corvette Stingray Split window that is sitting and apparently abandoned (just from the looks of it). There is no indication if this diamond in the rough is for sale or if the owner has plans for it.

Don’t you wish you could stumble onto something like this and trailer it home? Thanks for pointing this one out Bob. Feel free to let us know more details about it!
UPDATE:
We were able to dig up some more details about this really cool Vette. It’s a 63′ fuelie with 360 HP, 11:25:1 compression, matching numbers car! Its also high tach, rock crusher, 4:56 differencial. It’s all intact!

Wow. This is exactly the kind of treasure that every car guy dreams about finding.

Oh yeah; did I mention that this car has been sitting in this exact same spot untouched since 1975?

I haven’t talked to the owner for a year or two about the car, but last I heard he didn’t have any plans to sell it. He has mentioned the possibility of attempting a restoration (claims he has talked to a few people about going in on it) but I don’t know how serious he ever got.

My family owns a similar 1963 split window coupe. All original, all intact (though probably w/severe frame rot), in similar non-running and outdoor-stored/neglected condition. Has been parked for >30 years since differential was blown. For the first time, we are considering selling it to a restorer or for parts and have no idea of the value. Please contact me with questions or sales leads. Car is currently on the east coast (sorry for the vague location, wouldn’t want any treasure hunters looking for parts).

How do I get a hold of this guy to offer to buy the car? Or get a hold of scott the guy with the other 63 in similar condition? I am an avid restorer and collector of these cars and those are just the types of projects I enjoy taking on. Thanks

This message is for Scott. I have been looking for a very long time for your exact restoration car.I have already done a 61 but my dream has always been a 63 split.I’m also located on the east coast and would very much like to see if you’re interested in parting with it. Mike….3/26/09

PLEASE! And I am sure I speak for all classic car lovers…if someone buys this car and starts the restoration, PLEASE post the progress! What a story that would be! I will post the progress on my website if requested! Mustang Mike from Mike’s Show-N-Shine. http://www.mikes-show-n-shine.com

Currently own 63 spilit window coupe w/327/340 HP – 55K original miles. WANT a 360 fuelie and I have restored other less desireable cars. Would like the opportunity to bid on these opportunities. I promise a good home! They will be loved and doted on. Your “children” deserve a better life! I, and others who have responded, can give them that life. Those pictures are close to watching child abuse!

Gday Scott,
Just found your comment about the ‘63 vette split window. I would be very interested in it if it is for sale. I’m located in Australia; is it still available, and what sort of price are you looking for? It’s something that I’ve always dreamed of owning since I was a child, I was born in ‘63. they are very hard to come by here in Australia. I do have a ‘69 camaro pro street, ‘69 pontiac firebird 455 motor, ‘77 pontiac transam. I have also an Australian HQ Holden one-tonner. These cars have been completely restored by me and family and the ‘63 corvette has always been my dream. Please contact me – kelvinkemish@gmail.com
Thanking you, Kel.

Has anyone noticed the 6 rear lights on the back? Factory cars only had 4. Could this be an FSO?

Hi we (my husband and myself) are interested in this corvette. Can you please send me an email and tell us the price.
Thank you, regards Franca and Zeno

That over-used useless excuse,I’m gonna restore
it,it’s not for sale burns my “f-in” ass. These
cars out there need to be taken care of now not
later. The owners letting them deteriorate should have the vehicles removed by force by
an interested party.(You don’t know how many times I wish I had J-hooks in the truck to do that). If they have a problem, toss them a hundred bucks and tell’em to get back
in the house. You don’t deserve the car!

Bonjour,
Je serais intéresser pour acheter cette corvette.
À bientôt !

I grew up in Spokane – this car is a legend there. In the early 90’s we used to drive by the car once a month at least. The general manager of a dealership I worked at during the time made a HUGE effort to buy the car then and have the dealership restore it – this guy just wasn’t going to sell it then, period. Doesn’t sound like much has changed.
When he was looking at it, we got to look all around and through it – it looked a lot better then than it does now in these pics… I believe the window was there (or up) then-
It’s too bad, but the comments from the socialists who think this car should be removed by force need to cool it. It’s a free country, and he should be able to light the thing on fire if he wants to. It’s a neat find, but he doesn’t owe anybody, or society in general, a thing. That being said, if he does sell it, I would love to see the progress on the restore. I’ve had a 17 year long crush on this car!

I used to live 2 houses away from this car in the late 80’s. It had about 2′ of lumber and pipe piled on top of and around it and I never did walk over to ask about it. Kind of assumed teh body would have been severely warped from the weight of all that material and the hot summers. Had I known it was a 4 speed fuelie I might have tried to talk him out of it. I was more interested in the ‘59 Caddy 2 blocks away. I always wondered what the story behind it was. I might even go drive by it and see if it’s stil there tonight. Keep looking in alley’s and yards. There’s still LOTS of treasures to be found….

Hi! I’m new to this. I wanted to see if anyone could give me some info. My dad has been a huge help to me in the last 10 years, like any good dad. I’m a single mom and he has always helped me out financially when I needed it. I still owe him, in my mind, although he never expected repayment. I’m just now starting to get back on my feet and have a little I can save up from time to time. Dad just turned 61 this year and his fantasy ride is the ‘63 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe. (I prefer the ‘65 Stingray myself!) I will never be able to afford an intact or fully retored car, but could someone point me in the direction of a frame or stripped down version. Dad will restore it and I think he would love sharing the experience with his grandsons.

I was informed the owner of this car was offered 22k by Barrett Jackson auctions and he quickly turned it down. I spoke to him about this car about 30 years ago. Didn’t want to sell it then either.

ihave a 1966 425 horse l72 for sale in alberta canada
By lee turfitt on Sep 12, 2009
This car has really been a legend. I currently live two blocks away from the car, and it hasn’t changed.
The three tail lights are a custom addition that was done by the owner many years ago. This is a somewhat common modification, but as stated in earlier posts, isn’t stock nor has it ever been.
I too would like to see what progress is made to this car if and when it is restored!
By Nick on Sep 22, 2009
I would like to know if you are going to sell it and for how much if you would please e-mail me
By James Crowder on Oct 6, 2009
It appears to be the classic “I’ll fix it up one day” project, but “one day” never comes.
It’s a good thing the car is carbon fiber though cause if it hasn’t even been touched since the 70s it would’ve already be into the ground by now…

I have access to a 1963 split window coupe one of the first factory ac cars made that year came out late in the year.
it’s a one owner with 39,000 actual miles
327 automatic.
the lady bought it new in Tennessee and the dealership offered her her pick of any car on the lot.
she priced it to me for 55,000
it has been chained to a pole under a shed for 16 years .
I haven’t got 55,000 but would except a nice finders fee to a lucky person.
u can contact me joe 713-562-6149

The 3 rear tail lights was fairly common, I’m surprised there’s so much curiousity about it. In fact I heard it was often done by new car dealers in CA before the cars were even sold. The same idiots who flared the fenders of these old Vettes probably thought a 3rd “custom” tail light was a cool idea too…
By Doug on Dec 11, 2009
yeah we’re all sickened by this “i’m gonna restore it someday” b.s. we always hear…might as well accept that the stubborn old bastard is gonna hoard it and let it rot into the ground till he’s rotting in the ground himself.
reminds me of a guy just outside the town i live in…a yard full of musclecars rusted beyond help, buried in mud. they were once usable, now little more than scrap. i can’t help but take it personally.

hey my grandpa and i want to fix up a car and his dream car is a stingray.
By joey on Dec 21, 2009
if i could ever get one like this one,i could call Chip Foose and have my dream car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
By brad vance on Jan 2, 2010
I had a 63 Stingray, I could shoot my self now for not keeping it. It was gold, with a 327 engine and automatic trans. It had 396 emblems on the hood, never did figure that out. I had it in 1967 in Birmingham , Alabama. I always wondered where it ended up.
By Paul on Jan 9, 2010
that old fart will never sell that car! it’s his, and no one else’s, he has a right to do as he feels with it, and someday someone will have just the right amount of money in hand that will justify what he thinks it’s worth. those A-HoLeS at barrett jackson should be ashamed of themselves for offering that old fart that amount of cash! they should know better!!!!
By GILLY SALDANA on Jan 13, 2010
Hey, I am very interested in this car. It’s been my dream to own a car like this one. could you tell me how much this car would sell for? I would have Chip Foose or somebody GOOD to restore this car.
By caleb on Jan 18, 2010
WHAT A JACKASS! this is a rare car, an automotive work of art, and he is just going to let it rot, this really sickens me to see this old gal treated in such a cruel and harsh manner at the hands of an idiot. I would love to take this car and do a frame off restoration.
