Project: Events Calendar - Creating a Global Classic Auto Resource
December 11, 2007 – 1:07 pmI am constantly scouring the web looking for hidden-gem classic car websites. While doing so I noticed that there are tons of sites with local classic car event listings, but I couldn’t find a single site that had a global classic car events calendar showing the locations and dates of events across the country (or world). There aren’t even any sites that have this type of info for an entire state!
I hope to change that very soon.
How cool would it be to type in a location and a date range and to be able to see all of the classic car events in a nice easy to read kind of way? Hopefully you won’t have to wait much longer, but I need your help. In preparation of getting this ready, I need to compile lots of local classic car shows and events schedules to add to the database prior to launch. If you are a car show event coordinator or if you have a list of the local car show events in your area, send them to me and I will be able to have them included in the Classic Nation Classic Car Events Calendar for the 2008 season!
We will need:
Event Name
Event Location (City, State, Country, Zip, Address)
Event Date
Event Details (any other details you know about - including promoter contact info for registration)
What types of events belong in the calendar? Car shows, car cruises, nostalgia drags…

Not to step on yer toes, but how does the Hemmings Event Calendar (http://www.hemmings.com/calendar/) not fit that bill?

Classic cars events (rallies, races, auctions, festivals, shows…) are also listed at http://www.classicrallies.com/calendar/

Hi Dan - Hemmings does have a great calendar format, but I noticed it hardly lists any of my favorite events that I try to lookup each year. For instance, I try to make it to the Goodguys both in Spokane and in Puyallup each year, and those are not listed (for 2008) on the Hemmings Calendar. It also shows only 4 events in my state for 2008, and none of them are in my city. Our goal in putting this calendar together is not going to make other calendars obsolete. But, we want to put together a resource that contains as much of this data as possible. A global calendar; including events located at our friends across the pond in the UK who are car nuts just like us. Hemmings has done a great job with their site. I just think that more information is available for classic car events floating around the web (and offline) and it would be pretty cool to put it all in one place.
