Abandoned Classic Cars
January 30, 2007 – 8:58 pmEvery so often I come across posts on other classic car related blogs on the internet that detail some of the many instances of classic cars being spotted in a remote location - either to be saved and restored or to be hauled in for classic car scrap metal. Over the years, I am sure we have all seen potential project cars sitting out in the woods or in a field that we would love to get our hands on. Here are some pictures of a classic Studebaker truck and a 1955 Chevy Bel air that have been sitting in the woods near my house and have never been touched. Are they worth a second look?
The Studebaker seems to be in reasonable shape considering it has been abandoned for as long as it has - the metal is all straight even though it is covered in moss.
The Studebaker engine seems to be all intact - how hard are these to get a hold of?
Here is the 1955 four door Chevy Bel Air. The body is almost all straight too, and the grille looks great. Take a look at how clean the rear chrome bumper is too!
The interior of this 55 didn’t look bad either.

You know that people from up our way would sell their grandmother for classics with as little rust as those two fine examples.
And those Studebaker sixes aren’t exactly rare. Whoever decides to resurrect that pickup would do good by calling up Bill Cathcart in CT (www.cathcartsstudebaker.com/), probably the foremost expert in Studebaker sixes.

I don’t know about the Chevy. Looks like there might be some sheet metal there. Not to mention the dash. Definately parts potential.
Now the Stude. That’s my area. That’s one nice old truck! I know of a number of Stude fans that would wet themselves to get that old girl!
Where in the blue blazes are you???

These two vehicles are near my house - which is Washington state north of Spokane about 50 miles in Pend Oreille County.

We have a bit of a guessing game going on this in the Studebaker forum. Would you be willing to contact any of us with details on where these cars are or who owns the property they’re sitting on?
Or, were you interested in them yourself? If so, it would behoove you to join the SDC and forum, for the support in getting the truck, at least, going.

I am not too interested in the cars for myself, and I am happy to give you the info. What is the SDC? I am definately happy to help!

Studebaker Drivers Club. It’s the national support group for those infected with Studebaker-ossis (LOL). The web page is studebakerdriversclub.com and there’s a fourm too. I hope you don’t mind my posting your responses. There are several people who’ve been following this. I’m sure there are a lot of people who would love to have that truck. I’m one. Just too broke, I’m afraid. I couldn’t even afford it if it was free! (LOL)

I think people are stupid to leave cars sitting around to rust. If i owned the land I would fix them up.

Hi Larry - what do you think a truck like this in this kind of condition is worth?
By Evan on Nov 12, 2007
YES THOSE WERE THE DAYS OF DESIGN. I OWNED A 1956 BUICK SUPER CONVERTIBLE AND A FRIEND HAD A 1957 ALL IN CHERRY CONDITION. BEAUTIFUL AMERICAN DESIGNS. I WENT INTO COMBAT AND IT WAS GONE WHEN I RETURNED, BUT THOSE WERE THE DAYS. NOWADAYS IS EUROPEAN DESIGN FOR MIDGETS, BUT I NOW HAVE A AMERICAN 2002 DODGE DAKOTA SPORT BEFORE THEY WENT FOREIGN. THOSE WERE MY HAPPYEST DAYS, BACK IN THE 50′S.
