Abandoned Classic Cars

Every so often I come across posts on other classic car related blogs on the internet that detail some of the many instances of classic cars being spotted in a remote location - either to be saved and restored or to be hauled in for classic car scrap metal. Over the years, I am sure we have all seen potential project cars sitting out in the woods or in a field that we would love to get our hands on. Here are some pictures of a classic Studebaker truck and a 1955 Chevy Bel air that have been sitting in the woods near my house and have never been touched. Are they worth a second look?

The Studebaker seems to be in reasonable shape considering it has been abandoned for as long as it has - the metal is all straight even though it is covered in moss.

The Studebaker engine seems to be all intact - how hard are these to get a hold of?

Here is the 1955 four door Chevy Bel Air. The body is almost all straight too, and the grille looks great. Take a look at how clean the rear chrome bumper is too!

The interior of this 55 didn’t look bad either.

Taking Great Classic Car Pictures

Every so often I come across classic car pictures that really seem to capture the car even more beautifully than seeing the car in person. It is had to tell what makes a great classic car picture. Is is perfect lighting? Maybe. Is it the angle of the car? Might be a little of that. In reality, it is probably the combination of many things that an actual photographer could tell you about. I just think I know a good classic car picture when I see one.

Here are a few that I saw today that really caught my eye.

Spokane Car Shows

Even though it is January, I find myself getting very excited for this spring and summer. I know that the melting of the snow brings with it some of the best car shows in the country around Spokane and the Inland Northwest. Get ready - I will be posting more classic car show events in the Spokane area here very soon! Until then, you might just have to enjoy the pictures from last year.

A little Classic Car History

Recently I had the great opportunity to learn a little more about a company that has been synonymous with the classic car industry - Hemmings Motor News. Most classic car enthusiasts know about Hemmings and the various publications that they put out. But here is a little history you may not know.

Hemmings

Hemmings has been around since 1954 when Ernie Hemmings started it in Illinois. It was later bought by Terry Ehrich sometime in the 1960s which is when it was moved to its present day location in Bennington, Vermont. Hemmings Motor News is mostly know for its great magazines which include the flagship and three others; Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotics.

In addition to operating these publications, Hemmings has a very prominant auto blog which serves up hot rod and muscle car articles to all types of auto enthusiasts.

Hemmings Motor News

Hemmings staffers can be spotted at car shows and events across the country. They sponsor a few events and around their area. For more information about Hemmings, check out the official Hemmings Blog. Special thanks to Dan for the great info!
